Treating Food As An Addictive Drug
When we hear of people dying because they have become so obese their bodies begin to fail it surely must be time we began to think of food as an addictive drug. We need to think about finding appropriate ways to restrict the availability of unhealthy foods to people who are being damaged by over eating.
It is sad to see how people can become so addicted to food they become obese and unable to do the things they enjoy. One of the problems is that we were all brought up thinking it is good to eat all your food and to have a healthy appetite. When it becomes excessive and compulsive eating that is no longer the case.
You Should Treat Food As An Addictive Drug
If you had a friend or family member in rehab trying to get off drugs you would support them but you would not smuggle drugs in to them just because they were asking you to. You would know not to do that because it would be harmful to them. It should be no different when somebody is trying to reduce their food intake. If eating has become a compulsive addiction then you should not help them eat more. You should treat food as an addictive drug and encourage them to eat a sensible diet and refuse the requests for junk foods and sugary drinks.
Obesity can lead to a premature death. Anything that contributes to someone dying through over eating is not something any of us should be happy about and we should do everything we can to encourage everyone to eat healthy food in a sensible and healthy way while constantly reminding them that they must treat food as an addictive drug.
